MOTOCYCLE TRIP TO Harsnaqar + Sevanavank TOUR

A monastery on the northwestern shore of Lake Sevan in the Gegharkunik region of Armenia. The complex of buildings is located on the Sevan peninsula of the same name, which was previously a small island.

The monastery was founded in 874 by Princess Mariam of the Bagratuni royal family. The king of Armenia, Ashot II the Iron, lived in the monastery for some time. He fought against the Arab warriors who approached the shore of Sevan near the walls of the monastery.

In the 16th-17th centuries, the walls of the monastery were destroyed, and in 1930, the last monk left the island. Today, the monastery is functioning again, and the Vazgen I Theological Seminary operates in it.

Haghartsin Monastery tour

Haghartsin is an Armenian monastery located in the Tavush region of Armenia, 18 km from Dilijan, in a wooded valley of the Ijevan mountain range. The monastery was built in the 11th-13th centuries.

The complex consists of three churches, two narthexes, a refectory and prayer houses. The oldest church is Surb Grigor, built in the 11th century. The main monastery church Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) was built in 1281. The church of Surb Stepanos, built in 1244, resembles the church of the Holy Mother of God, but is smaller in size.

On the territory there is a refectory built in 1248. Here was the royal burial vault of the Bagratuni family, from which tombstones with the names of kings Smbat and Gagik have been preserved.
